Hi folks. Todays Weather Wednesday post is about the blizzard that wasn’t as historic as predicted. I really couldn’t think of anything so I am grasping to hopefully have an idea of how things went in New York and other places with the snow and strong winds blowing it all around.
So, I have decided to try and remember some winter storms that didn’t materialize or hit us but were forecasted to do so. There was one in February 2000 which was supposed to hit Southern Ontario but it missed us by that much. There was supposed to be a whole lot of snow, wind and possibly freezing precip but, thankfully it all missed us.
In March 1991 there was a winter storm which could have given Southern Ontario significant snow or rain but a strong hi presure system kept it to the south of us.
In late January 1990 Southern Ontario was affected by a winter storm but we were on the warm side of it with a lot of wind and some rain. There were even reports of a funnel cloud some places but nothing came of it. Okay, that last one wasn’t really a missed storm but is an example of being lucky to be on the warm side of such an event. I can’t imagine what would have happened if it was 10 degrees colder that day.
Oh, here is another example of being on the warm side of a storm in winter. On March 14th 1989 a winter storm raced through Southern Ontario and we were on the warm side of it. It brought thunderstorms and showers along with warm temperatures during the overnight hours, with a cold front pushing temperatures back down to seasonable values. This came before a real winter storm to end the season moved in on Friday st. Patrick’s Day.
