Sangean P-RD9W Weather Alert Radio

Hi folks and welcome to another Weather Wednesday. This week is all about the Sangean PR-D9W I bought it last week and so far, I love it for what it does for it’s size.

I discovered it in 2011, when it first came out and when I heard that it was a portable model, that got my attention. All though I expected it to be the size of a walkie-talkie. It is however, small enough to put in a backpack or bag without being too much of a problem carying it, dew to its light weight.

It has an am/ fm radio on it with a weather alert radio too, all though it doesn’t have SAME Weather Alert. It also has a clock with alarm and a telescopic antenna to increase the range of the units reception.

I am actually quite pleased with how well the receiver picks up a lot of my favourite fm stations and also some of the Weather Radio stations that are not in my local area. I played with it on the way home and found this out and that really made me happy to have it as one of my radios.

The other thing that is also an option is an internal battery charger, to recharge NICD or NIMH batteries but I prefer to charge them outside the unit. My worry is actually overcharging the cells, which could damage the unit and I don’t want to do that.

The only thing I have found wrong with the unit is the manual, which is helpfull to a point. Okay, it’s very helpfull up to when it talks about where the buttons are situated. It numbers all the icons and buttons and that doesn’t really help if you are trying to figure out what to press to perform a function, if you can’t see what you are doing. That is where I was in luck because the guy who sold it to me at the store where I bought it, read out where each button was situated, according to the manual. I had been studying the manual for the entire weekend and had no idea of this potential problem until it happened to me and my friend at the store read out each button and its function for me. Even so, I’m still getting the hang of how to do certain tings such as Canceling alarms and I’m hoping to have a severe storm come through in the next while, so I can find out if I have the alert function set to what I want.

Over all, it is a good unit and I mainly use it as my fm radio to listen to my favourite radio station on speaker and earphones in stereo. I don’t know if this will be my Ultimate radio but it is close. However, I will use it as one of my many radios alongside each other to do various things for me when needed.

That’s about it for this weeks post. If you want more information on this model check this link out.

I hope you will potentially enjoy purchasing this radio as much as I do. Talk to you on Simpsons Sunday.
