The Sad Side Of Christmas

Hi folks and welcome to another Simpsons Sunday. I’m certainly looking forward to the next episode Paths Of Glory tonight and wheather Sideshow Bob will show up or not. It was thought that he would be on it at first but now, I’m not so sure.

On a sad note, singer Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver passed away on Thursday, aged 48. I liked his work with both bands but unfortunately, I never had the chance to see them live. RIP Scott and my condolences to your family and friends. Thank you for all your great music over the years, whether it was with the bands I’ve mentioned or with your solo work and appearances on other peoples albums and movie soundtracks. For example: the one time band The magnificent Bastards have a couple songs: Mockingbird Girl and a cover of John Lennon’s How Do You Sleep? which both appeared on movie soundtracks and a John Lennon tribute album respectively.

This weeks post is on the episode I Won’t Be Home For Christmas, which aired on December 7th 2014. Basically, Homer gets home very late from Moe’s Tavern and Marge assumes that it was his idea to come home early the next day. She kicks him out of the house and he goes off looking for places which are opened but there aren’t a lot of options. He pays a visit to Apu and purchases some scratch and win tickets, of which none of them are winners.

At home, Lisa and Bart are wondering why Homer isn’t with them and Marge considers letting this go or doing something about it… Like leaving Homer. Moe shows up and tells Marge that it was him who made Homer stay with him at the bar as late as he did and Marge goes off to find Homer.

Homer ends up at a party with people who look like food and eventually, Marge shows up and forgives him and tells him that she won’t always assume everything he does is his fault. They go back home and I’m not sure what happens next but I can assume that they go up to their room and well, you know. Mean while, Bart and Lisa wake up and open their presents, before Homer and Marge emerge from their loving room.

I like this episode because it shows that Christmas isn’t just all about good cheer, shopping, Santa Claus and all that stuff. There are certain people in our population, who live on hard times during the season. Especially now that it’s colder outside. We only to think of those people to, as well as those of us who have the luck of a warm house to live in and a warm bed to sleep in at night. What I realized after watching the episode was at the end, their was a preview of sorts, of the next episode The Man Who Came To Be Dinner. If you have it in your iTunes collection or how ever you have this episode and others from Season 26, take a listen and look at both this and the next episode.
